Did you know that every semester Oceans 5 Gili Air supports 12 Indonesian marine science students as they collect data and gain practical field experience to help them achieve their dream of becoming marine scientists?

What makes this program unique is that it is not funded by grants, government programs, or donations. Instead, it is supported directly by the guests who choose to dive and stay with us. Every dive course, fun dive, and room booking helps create opportunities for young Indonesian students to learn, research, and develop their skills in the marine environment.

Independent Science Matters

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, we believe science should be independent.

Too often, research projects around the world are influenced by funding priorities, grant requirements, or expectations about what the outcome should be. Research can become focused on topics that attract large budgets rather than questions that are genuinely important to understand our oceans.

We take a different approach.
