In a lot of dive destinations there are dive sites with names that only gives you as diver false expectations. There are Manta Points, Sharkpoints, Frogfish Points etc which doesnt offer what the name tells you. Sharkpoint on the Gili islands is not a dive site like that! Sharkpoint has his sharks!
Sharkpoint is the most famous dive spot around the Gili Islands. Its located on the West side of Gili Trawangan. A flat sandy bottom turns into a series of progressively deeper canyons that run parallel to the shore.
In the shallow part of Sharkpoint you will find for sure turtles in all kind of sizes. This will the Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtle. In the deeper part there is a good change to see the White Tip Reef Sharks, the school of Jack Fish and Baracudas.
Around full moon the Bumphead Parrotfish shows up from the deeper part of the ocean. This is one of the most beautiful moments that you as diver can have surrounded with 30 Bumpheads.
Sharkpoint is a dive site that is never boring, there is always a lot of marine life around. The dive site is suitable for all kind of divers.

The Gili Islands have to offer all what a diver wants. The combination nightlife and the huge marine diversity is an exception in the world. And that is one of the main reasons why the Gili Islands tracks so many tourist each year.
For a diver there are a lot of things what you can see. For the big stuff Oceans 5 dive resort recommend Shark point, this dive site is on the West side of Gili Trawangan. Shark Point is one of the most famous dive sites around the Gili Islands. Frequent visitors are the white and black tip reef sharks, schooling trevallies, barracuda’s, bump-heads and a lot of turles.
Macro lovers will not be disappointed on the Gilis. The harbor of Gili Air, Oceans 5 house reef is an excellent spot to find all kind of small marine life. In the evenings the reef has the mandarin fish and even the mimic octopus and wonderpus are there. Its a place you will never forget if you find all the different kind of nudi branch and pipefish.
Coral gardens find you at Soraya. This dive site is located between Gili Air and Gili Meno. Here you will find the untouched corals and seafan with pygmy seahorses
A few days ago it was time for 17 Olive Ridley turtles to go into the big blue. After a stay of 6 months in the water basins of Oceans 5 dive resort, these turtles were big enough to stay a long time underwater and enjoy their natural enviroment of the sea.
Oceans 5 wants to thank all the people who were taking care of these turtles, Simone Sauren (marine biologist), Nun, Bahry, Madjid and Rizal. And ofcourse all the people who donate some so that the turtles become stong and healthy enough to return to the sea.
At this moment Oceans 5 dive resort has still 50 Olive Ridleys in the water basisins. They have to wait for an other release when the are bigger and stronger to see the blue.
