Become an SSI Instructor at Oceans 5 Gili Air

The Next Instructor Training Course Starts on 16 July

Are you ready to turn your passion for diving into a professional career? The next SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) at Oceans 5 Gili Air begins on 16 July, offering Divemasters the opportunity to become confident, knowledgeable, and highly skilled SSI Open Water Instructors.

Led by SSI Instructor Trainer Warren “Waz” Beyers, this 16-day program is designed to prepare candidates not only to successfully complete the SSI Instructor Evaluation (IE), but also to become instructors who are ready to teach professionally from day one.

Why Choose Oceans 5 Gili Air?

Choosing where you complete your Instructor Training Course is one of the most important decisions you will make as a dive professional. Every SSI Instructor Training Centre follows the same SSI standards, but the quality of your education depends on the experience, coaching, and dedication of your Instructor Trainer.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, the focus has always been on producing instructors who teach with confidence, professionalism, and excellent diving skills. With more than 15 years of experience in professional diver education, Oceans 5 has helped many divers take the next step from Divemaster to Instructor.

The course is conducted in small groups, allowing every candidate to receive individual attention and continuous feedback. Throughout the training, candidates are encouraged to improve every aspect of their teaching, communication, diving skills, and leadership.

Rather than simply preparing candidates to pass an examination, Oceans 5 prepares them for a successful career in the diving industry.

Learn from SSI Instructor Trainer Waz

The person leading your Instructor Training Course has a lasting influence on the instructor you become.

SSI Instructor Trainer Warren “Waz” Beyers believes that passing the Instructor Evaluation should never be the only objective. His goal is to develop instructors whose teaching ability is well above the minimum standards required for certification.

Every presentation, confined water session, and open water workshop is carefully analysed. Waz provides detailed feedback that helps candidates improve their demonstrations, communication, buoyancy, problem-solving, and overall professionalism.

Candidates quickly learn that being a great instructor involves much more than knowing the SSI standards. It means understanding how different students learn, adapting to their needs, building confidence, and creating enjoyable learning experiences.

By the end of the course, candidates have developed not only the technical knowledge required to become an SSI Instructor but also the confidence and teaching skills that employers value.

Why Gili Air Is the Perfect Classroom

The location of your Instructor Training Course plays an important role in your learning experience.

Gili Air offers warm tropical water, excellent visibility, diverse dive sites, and year-round diving conditions. These ideal conditions allow instructor candidates to focus on developing their teaching skills rather than worrying about difficult environmental conditions.

The waters surrounding the Gili Islands provide opportunities to practise a wide variety of diving activities, including deep diving, navigation, drift diving, buoyancy control, rescue scenarios, and boat diving. Experiencing different diving conditions helps future instructors become more adaptable and more confident underwater.

Away from busy cities, Gili Air also provides a relaxed island atmosphere where candidates can concentrate fully on their professional development while enjoying one of Indonesia’s most beautiful diving destinations.

Professional Facilities for Professional Training

An Instructor Training Course requires facilities that support high-quality education.

Oceans 5 Gili Air offers:

  • Two spacious training pools designed specifically for diver education.
  • Comfortable classrooms for academic workshops and presentations.
  • Well-maintained equipment serviced to high professional standards.
  • Dedicated dive boats for training dives.
  • On-site accommodation for candidates who wish to stay at the resort.
  • A modern gym to support fitness throughout the course.
  • An experienced team of instructors and dive professionals who contribute throughout the training program.

These facilities allow candidates to train in a professional environment while receiving continuous coaching every day.

Training Beyond the Minimum Standard

Every candidate wants to pass the Instructor Evaluation, but certification is only the beginning of an instructor’s career.

At Oceans 5, the emphasis is on developing instructors who feel comfortable teaching real students in real situations. Throughout the course, candidates are encouraged to think independently, solve problems, communicate effectively, and continuously improve their teaching performance.

The objective is simple: when you leave Oceans 5 with your SSI Instructor certification, you should feel ready to lead courses with confidence and professionalism anywhere in the world.

Pool Scuba Program for Kids at Oceans 5 Gili Air

Pool Scuba Program for Kids at Oceans 5 Gili Air
Pool Scuba Program for Kids at Oceans 5 Gili Air

A Safe Introduction to Scuba Diving for Children Aged 8 and 9

Does your child dream of breathing underwater but isn’t old enough to start an SSI Open Water Diver course? At Oceans 5 Gili Air, we offer a fun and educational Pool Scuba Program for Kids specially designed for children aged 8 and 9 years old.

While the SSI Open Water Diver course starts at the minimum age of 10, younger children can still experience the excitement of scuba diving in a controlled, safe environment. Our pool program introduces the basics of scuba diving without the pressure of completing a certification course.

Learn the Basics of Scuba Diving

The program starts with a simple and easy-to-understand theory session. Our experienced SSI instructors explain how scuba equipment works, basic underwater communication, and the most important safety rules. Everything is adapted to the child’s age and learning pace, making the experience both enjoyable and educational.

After the theory, it’s time to get into the pool.

Children will learn basic scuba skills such as:

  • Breathing comfortably underwater.
  • Clearing water from their mask.
  • Recovering and breathing from the regulator.
  • Equalizing their ears.
  • Swimming underwater while maintaining good buoyancy.
  • Communicating with hand signals.

These skills are introduced gradually, allowing every child to build confidence step by step.

Learning Through Games

The highlight of the program is the fun underwater games.

Instead of focusing on tests or performance, our instructors create exciting games that help children become comfortable underwater while practicing the skills they have learned. This playful approach keeps the experience relaxed, enjoyable, and memorable.

The goal is simple: build confidence, have fun, and create a positive first experience with scuba diving.

Small Groups for Maximum Safety

Safety is always our highest priority at Oceans 5 Gili Air.

Every Pool Scuba Program is conducted by one of our experienced SSI instructors with a maximum of just two children per instructor. This allows each child to receive plenty of personal attention and ensures the instructor can adapt the pace to every participant.

There is no rush. Every child learns differently, and our instructors make sure each participant feels comfortable before moving on to the next activity.

A Non-Certification Experience

It is important to know that this is not an SSI certification course.

The Pool Scuba Program is purely an introductory experience that allows children to discover the underwater world safely while learning the foundations of scuba diving. Once they reach the age of 10, they can continue their diving journey by enrolling in the SSI Open Water Diver course, where they will earn an internationally recognized scuba certification.

Why Choose Oceans 5 Gili Air?

For more than 15 years, Oceans 5 Gili Air has built a reputation as one of the most respected dive centres in Indonesia. Our focus has always been on high-quality instruction, safety, and personal attention.

When your child joins our Pool Scuba Program, they benefit from:

  • Experienced and patient SSI instructors.
  • A maximum of two children per instructor.
  • Modern, well-maintained scuba equipment.
  • A safe swimming pool designed for diver training.
  • A relaxed learning environment with no pressure.
  • A fun experience that encourages confidence and curiosity.

We believe that introducing children to scuba diving should always be about enjoyment, safety, and creating unforgettable memories.

Give Your Child Their First Underwater Adventure

If your child is 8 or 9 years old and can’t wait to discover the underwater world, the Pool Scuba Program at Oceans 5 Gili Air is the perfect introduction.

They’ll learn the basics of scuba diving, play exciting underwater games, gain confidence in the water, and experience the magic of breathing underwater—all under the close supervision of our professional SSI instructors.

It’s the perfect first step towards a lifetime of underwater adventures.

What to Expect at Oceans 5 Gili Air

Turtles Indonesia | Scuba Diving Gili Air | SSI ITC Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Air

Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you’re thinking about trying scuba diving for the first time, you’re probably excited—but maybe a little nervous too. That’s completely normal. Almost every certified diver remembers their very first breath underwater.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, we have been introducing people to the underwater world for more than 15 years. Thousands of guests have taken their first scuba dive with us, and our goal has always been the same: to make your first diving experience safe, relaxed, and unforgettable.

If you’re wondering what your first scuba diving experience looks like, here’s exactly what you can expect.

Step 1: Register Through the SSI App

Before your first dive, you’ll register for your program through the SSI (Scuba Schools International) app. This gives you access to your digital learning materials and allows us to create your diver profile.

Our instructors will help you through the registration process if needed, so you don’t have to worry if you’ve never used the app before.

Step 2: Learn the Basics of Scuba Diving

Before entering the water, you’ll have a theory session with one of our experienced instructors.

Don’t worry—this isn’t like sitting in a classroom all day. The theory is designed to give you the knowledge you need to enjoy your dive safely and confidently.

During this session, you’ll learn about:

  • How scuba equipment works
  • How to breathe underwater
  • Equalizing your ears
  • Underwater communication using hand signals
  • Basic safety procedures
  • What marine life you may encounter around the Gili Islands

Your instructor will explain everything in a clear and easy-to-understand way, and there is plenty of time to ask questions.

Step 3: Practice in Our Training Pool

Once you’re familiar with the basics, it’s time to get into the water—but not the ocean just yet.

You’ll begin in one of our purpose-built training pools, where you’ll become comfortable with your scuba equipment in a calm and controlled environment.

During the pool session, you’ll practice essential scuba skills, including:

  • Breathing through your regulator
  • Clearing water from your mask
  • Recovering your regulator
  • Equalizing your ears
  • Buoyancy control
  • Swimming comfortably with your equipment

There is absolutely no rush.

Our instructors work at your pace, making sure you’re comfortable before moving on to the next skill. Everyone learns differently, and we believe your first diving experience should be enjoyable—not stressful.

Step 4: Your First Ocean Dive

Once you’ve completed the pool session and both you and your instructor are comfortable, it’s time for the part you’ve been waiting for—your first real scuba dive.

You’ll board one of our dive boats and head to one of the beautiful dive sites around the Gili Islands.

Your instructor will stay with you throughout the entire dive.

Depending on the conditions and your comfort level, you’ll descend to a maximum depth of 12 metres, giving you plenty of time to experience what it’s like to breathe underwater while exploring the vibrant reefs of the Gili Islands.

During your dive, you may encounter:

  • Green sea turtles
  • Colorful reef fish
  • Healthy coral reefs
  • Schools of tropical fish
  • Maybe even a reef shark cruising in the distance

Every dive is different, which makes every underwater adventure unique.

Your Instructor Is With You Every Step of the Way

One of the biggest concerns first-time divers have is whether they’ll be left alone underwater.

The answer is simple: absolutely not.

Your experienced SSI instructor will be with you during every part of the program—from the classroom to the pool and throughout your ocean dive.

They’ll continuously check that you’re comfortable, answer your questions, and make sure you’re enjoying the experience.

Why Choose Oceans 5 Gili Air for Your First Scuba Dive?

Plastic Pollution Around the Gili Islands

How Gili Air Is Taking Action

Plastic Pollution Around the Gili Islands | Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Air
Plastic Pollution Around the Gili Islands | Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Air

When people imagine the Gili Islands, they picture crystal-clear water, white sandy beaches, colorful coral reefs, and sea turtles swimming through healthy reefs. While that picture is still very much a reality, like many islands around the world, the Gili Islands also face an ongoing challenge: plastic pollution.

The good news? Gili Air is not sitting back and waiting for someone else to solve the problem. The island has built a strong community where local organizations, businesses, residents, and volunteers work together every day to keep the island and the surrounding ocean as clean as possible.

A Community Solution: Gili Cares

One of the driving forces behind waste management on Gili Air is Gili Cares.

Every morning, their team collects rubbish from businesses and households across the island. Rather than allowing waste to accumulate locally, it is transported by boat to Lombok, where it is taken to an incinerator for processing.

This entire system is funded by the local community.

Every business on Gili Air pays a monthly rubbish collection fee. These contributions allow Gili Cares to:

  • Collect rubbish every day
  • Operate pick-up trucks around the island
  • Transport waste by boat to Lombok
  • Employ local staff
  • Continue improving waste management on Gili Air

It is a community-supported system that demonstrates what can be achieved when everyone contributes.

Giving Glass Bottles a Second Life

Plastic is not the only material receiving attention.

Gili Cares also collects glass bottles from businesses across the island. Instead of treating them as waste, the bottles are crushed and transformed into eco bricks.

These eco bricks can be used as a sustainable building material for walls, landscaping projects, and other construction applications.

To make this possible, several local businesses donated funds for the purchase of a professional glass crushing machine. It is another example of how businesses on Gili Air work together to reduce waste while creating practical new products.

Recycling Beyond Plastic

Around the island, several dedicated individuals collect recyclable materials such as:

  • Plastic bottles
  • Aluminium cans
  • Cardboard
  • Cartons

These materials are separated from general waste and sent for recycling instead of ending up in landfill or the ocean.

One of the best-known people involved is Rama.

His recycling efforts grew after joining the weekly beach clean-ups organized by Oceans 5 Gili Air. Inspired by seeing how much recyclable material was being collected, Rama began gathering plastic bottles, cans, and cartons on a regular basis, helping ensure these valuable materials are reused instead of becoming pollution.

It shows how a single volunteer experience can inspire long-term environmental action.

Weekly Beach Clean-Ups

Keeping an island clean requires consistent effort.

That is why several businesses on Gili Air organize regular clean-up events.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, everyone is welcome to join the weekly beach clean-up every Friday at 17:00.

Participation is completely free.

Divers, snorkelers, tourists, local residents, families, and children all regularly take part. After the clean-up, participants are invited back to Oceans 5 to enjoy a well-deserved drink while meeting other people who care about protecting the island.

These events are not only about collecting rubbish—they also help build awareness and encourage visitors to become part of the solution.

Looking Beneath the Surface

The beaches are only one part of the environment that needs protection.

Marine debris can also become trapped on coral reefs or rest on the seabed.

For that reason, Oceans 5 also organizes regular reef clean-ups, where divers remove fishing line, plastic waste, and other debris that could damage coral reefs or threaten marine life.

Healthy reefs mean healthier fish populations, safer habitats for sea turtles, and a better experience for every diver visiting the Gili Islands.

Every Small Action Counts

Plastic pollution is a global problem, but local actions can make a real difference.

Whether it is:

  • Paying the monthly waste collection fee
  • Separating recyclable materials
  • Building with eco bricks
  • Collecting plastic bottles
  • Joining a beach clean-up
  • Participating in reef clean-ups

Every contribution helps protect one of Indonesia’s most beautiful marine environments.

How You Can Help During Your Visit

If you are visiting Gili Air, you can easily become part of the solution.

Here are a few simple ways:

  • Bring a reusable water bottle.
  • Refuse single-use plastic bags where possible.
  • Dispose of your rubbish responsibly.
  • Join a Friday beach clean-up.
  • Respect marine life and never leave litter behind.
  • Encourage others to care for the island.

You don’t have to be a marine biologist to make a positive impact. Small actions from thousands of visitors each year create meaningful change.

Dive With a Dive Centre That Believes in Action

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, conservation is not just a slogan—it is part of everyday life.

From weekly beach clean-ups and regular reef clean-ups to teaching excellent buoyancy skills that help protect coral reefs, conservation is integrated into every aspect of the dive centre.

When you dive with Oceans 5, you are supporting a business that believes protecting the ocean is just as important as exploring it.

If you would like to combine an unforgettable diving holiday with the opportunity to give something back to the marine environment, join us on Friday at 17:00 for our weekly beach clean-up. Everyone is welcome, and afterwards we’ll share a drink together while celebrating another small step towards keeping Gili Air beautiful for future generations.

The Benefits of Scuba Diving

More Than Just an Adventure

Scuba Diving Gili Islands | Scuba Diving Indonesia | SSI ITC Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Air
Scuba Diving Gili Islands | Scuba Diving Indonesia | SSI ITC Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Air

Have you ever wondered why so many divers say that scuba diving changed their lives? For some, it starts as a holiday activity. For others, it becomes a lifelong passion, a career, or even a completely new way of looking at the world.

Scuba diving is much more than swimming underwater. It is an activity that combines adventure, relaxation, learning, fitness, and nature into one unforgettable experience.

1. Discover a World That Most People Never See

More than 70% of our planet is covered by water, yet only a small percentage of people ever experience what lies beneath the surface.

Every dive is different. One day you may swim alongside graceful sea turtles. The next day you could discover colorful coral reefs, schools of tropical fish, reef sharks, nudibranchs, or even a fascinating shipwreck. Every descent feels like entering another world.

2. Improve Your Mental Well-Being

Many divers describe scuba diving as a form of underwater meditation.

Because you breathe slowly and deeply through your regulator, your mind naturally begins to relax. Underwater there are no phone calls, emails, or social media—just the sound of your breathing and the beauty of the ocean.

Research suggests that scuba diving may help reduce stress and improve mood through controlled breathing, immersion in water, physical activity, and mindful focus. While it is not a replacement for professional medical care, many divers report feeling calmer and more refreshed after diving.

3. A Great Way to Stay Active

Scuba diving is excellent low-impact exercise.

While diving you are constantly moving, improving your:

  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Core strength
  • Leg muscles
  • Balance and coordination
  • Flexibility

Unlike many sports, the water supports your body, making diving enjoyable for people of many different ages and fitness levels.

4. Build Confidence

Remember your first bicycle ride?

Learning to scuba dive gives you that same feeling of achievement. Every new skill you master builds confidence.

Whether it’s clearing your mask, hovering effortlessly above a coral reef, or completing your first night dive, every accomplishment makes you a more confident diver—and often a more confident person above the surface too.

5. Make Friends Around the World

Scuba diving has one of the friendliest communities you will ever meet.

Divers love sharing experiences, helping each other, and exploring together. Whether you travel to Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, or Australia, you’ll immediately have something in common with fellow divers.

Many lifelong friendships begin on a dive boat.

6. Become an Ocean Ambassador

The more time you spend underwater, the more you begin to appreciate how incredible—and fragile—the marine environment really is.

Many divers become passionate about marine conservation because they have seen coral reefs, turtles, sharks, and other marine life with their own eyes.

When people experience the underwater world, they are often inspired to help protect it for future generations.

Why Are More and More Dive Shops on the Gili Islands Choosing SSI?

Choosing SSI

If you walk around the Gili Islands today, especially on Gili Air, you will notice a clear trend: more and more dive centers are choosing SSI as their training agency. In fact, on Gili Air alone, there are now roughly twice as many SSI dive centers as dive centers affiliated with other major training organizations.

Why is this happening?

The answer is not that one organization teaches people to breathe underwater better than another. At the end of the day, all major recreational diving organizations teach the same fundamental skills needed to become a safe diver.

So what is driving the shift?

Diving Is About the Instructor

Before comparing agencies, it is important to understand one thing: the quality of your diving course depends primarily on your instructor, not on the logo printed on your certification card.

Every major diving organization has standards, regulations, teaching materials, and training systems. These standards define what students need to learn and what instructors need to teach.

A great instructor will deliver a great course regardless of the agency. A poor instructor can make any course disappointing, regardless of the logo on the certification card.

The real differences between agencies are often found behind the scenes.

The SSI Digital Platform

One of the biggest reasons dive shops are moving towards SSI is its modern digital ecosystem.

SSI has invested heavily in creating a user-friendly platform for both students and professionals.

Students can:

  • Access their digital learning materials online.
  • Study from their phone, tablet, or computer.
  • Review course materials after certification.
  • Store all certifications digitally in one place.

For instructors and dive centers, the platform simplifies administration enormously.

Tasks that once required paperwork, manual processing, and lengthy administrative procedures can now be completed quickly through SSI’s integrated digital system.

This means instructors spend less time behind a desk and more time teaching in the water.

Instant Digital Certifications

Another feature that students appreciate is SSI’s instant certification system.

Once an instructor has completed all training requirements and the dive center processes the certification, the student’s digital certification card appears almost immediately in the SSI app.

There is no waiting for weeks for a physical card to arrive.

A student can finish an Open Water Diver course in the afternoon and have access to their certification within minutes.

For dive centers, this makes the certification process simple, efficient, and transparent.

SSI’s Strong Focus on Marine Conservation

Another major reason for SSI’s growing popularity is its commitment to marine conservation and environmental education.

SSI has developed one of the most extensive ranges of ecology specialty programs in the diving industry.

These include subjects such as:

  • Coral Identification
  • Shark Ecology
  • Sea Turtle Ecology
  • Fish Identification
  • Marine Ecology
  • Marine Mammal Ecology
  • Manta and Ray Ecology
  • Nudibranch Ecology
  • Invertebrate Ecology

What makes these programs unique is that they can be taught to both divers and non-divers.

This allows anyone with an interest in the ocean to learn more about marine ecosystems, even if they do not yet scuba dive.

Making Ocean Education Accessible

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, environmental education has always been an important part of our philosophy.

As a conservation-focused dive center, we believe that understanding marine life is one of the best ways to encourage people to protect it.

SSI’s ecology programs help make that possible.

Because the teaching materials are affordable for dive centers, course prices can remain affordable for students. This means more people can participate in marine education without facing high costs.

Conservation should not be something reserved for a select few. The more people who understand coral reefs, sharks, turtles, and marine ecosystems, the better the future of our oceans will be.

A System Designed for Modern Dive Centers

Dive centers today operate in a very different environment than they did ten or twenty years ago.

Students expect digital access. They expect instant certifications. They expect mobile-friendly learning materials. They expect flexibility.

SSI has built a system around those expectations.

For dive centers, this reduces administration, improves efficiency, and creates a smoother experience for both instructors and students.

The Future of Diving on the Gili Islands

The growth of SSI on the Gili Islands reflects a broader trend across the diving industry.

Dive centers are looking for systems that are easy to use, student-friendly, environmentally focused, and digitally efficient.

While the quality of any diving course will always depend on the professionalism of the instructor delivering it, many dive shops are finding that SSI provides the tools that make modern dive education easier for everyone involved.

That is why more and more dive centers on Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan are choosing SSI—and why the number of SSI dive centers on Gili Air now significantly exceeds that of other training organizations.

For students, the result is simple: high-quality training, modern learning tools, immediate digital certifications, and greater access to marine conservation education than ever before.

The Best Night Dive on Gili Air?

Most Divers Never Discover This Hidden World

The Best Night Dive on Gili Air | Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Islands
The Best Night Dive on Gili Air | Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Islands

When people think about diving around Gili Air, they usually imagine turtles, clear blue water, colorful coral reefs, and beautiful daytime dives. But what if we told you that some of the strangest and most fascinating marine life only appears after the sun goes down?

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, we organize night dives every day on request, and many divers tell us afterward that their night dive became the highlight of their entire holiday.

Why Dive at Night?

The ocean completely changes after sunset.

Fish that hide during the day come out to hunt. Octopuses leave their dens. Pipefish move through the darkness searching for food. Crustaceans emerge from the sand. Suddenly, the reef becomes a completely different world.

A night dive is not just another dive. It is like visiting an entirely new dive site.

The Harbor Night Dive: Gili Air’s Best-Kept Secret

Many divers would never guess that one of the most exciting night dives around Gili Air is right in the harbor.

At first glance, the harbor doesn’t look spectacular. Like many harbors around the world, there is debris and man-made structure on the seabed. But this is exactly what attracts an incredible variety of marine life.

The harbor has become a haven for macro creatures and underwater photographers.

During our night dives, it is common to encounter:

  • Various species of pipefish
  • Octopuses hunting across the bottom
  • Crabs and shrimps
  • Juvenile reef fish
  • Fascinating nocturnal creatures rarely seen during the day

Every dive is different, and every torch beam reveals something new.

The Hidden Secret of the Mandarin Fish

Most divers know that mandarin fish are famous for their short mating display at dusk.

What many divers don’t know is that the harbor of Gili Air is one of the hidden secrets for finding mandarin fish.

While other locations require perfect timing and a lot of luck, sightings here are remarkably consistent. In fact, many divers are surprised to discover that mandarin fish can often be seen outside the typical dusk window.

Although nature never gives guarantees, this is probably one of the closest things to a “mandarin fish guarantee” you will find around the Gili Islands.

The Best Night Dive on Gili Air | Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Islands

Four Divers or More? We Go to Mentigi!

When four or more divers join the night dive, we load the boat and head to Mentigi.

Forget the postcard coral reefs.

Mentigi is a true muck diving paradise.

The volcanic black sand may not look impressive at first, but hidden in that sand is an extraordinary world of small marine life.

Every square meter can contain something unusual.

Expect to search for:

  • Rare crustaceans
  • Tiny octopuses
  • Pipefish
  • Night-active reef creatures
  • Camouflaged marine life that is almost impossible to spot during the day

For divers who love macro photography and critter hunting, Mentigi is one of the most exciting dive sites around Gili Air.

A Completely Different Diving Experience

Many visitors come to Gili Air for turtles and coral reefs. That’s fantastic.

But night diving shows you a side of the ocean that most tourists never experience.

The darkness sharpens your senses. Every creature feels like a discovery. Every dive becomes an underwater treasure hunt.

It is exciting, peaceful, and unforgettable all at the same time.

Join a Night Dive at Oceans 5 Gili Air

Night dives are available every day on request at Oceans 5 Gili Air. Whether you want to explore the mysterious harbor critters or join a boat trip to Mentigi, our experienced team will guide you safely through one of the most fascinating underwater experiences the Gili Islands have to offer.

The question is not whether you will see something unusual.

The question is: how many strange creatures can you spot before your buddy does?

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, that dream can become reality through the SSI Divemaster Internship program. Over a period of 6 to 8 weeks, you can transform from a recreational diver into a confident dive professional while training in one of Indonesia’s most respected dive centers.

Why Start Your Divemaster Internship on Gili Air?

Not all islands are the same when it comes to professional dive training.

Gili Air offers the perfect balance between world-class diving and a relaxed island lifestyle. Unlike larger tourist destinations, Gili Air provides a peaceful environment where you can focus on developing your diving skills while still enjoying vibrant restaurants, sunsets, and a strong diving community.

The waters around the Gili Islands are famous for their turtles, healthy coral reefs, reef sharks, and excellent visibility. With dive sites suitable for both beginners and experienced divers, every day brings new learning opportunities.

For a future Divemaster, there are few better classrooms than the ocean surrounding Gili Air.

Why Oceans 5 Gili Air?

There are many dive shops in Indonesia offering Divemaster programs. However, not all internships are created equally.

Oceans 5 Gili Air has built its reputation on quality training rather than quantity. The goal is not simply to certify Divemasters. The goal is to create confident, professional dive leaders who are ready to work anywhere in the world.

As an SSI Instructor Training Center, Oceans 5 operates at a professional level that goes far beyond recreational diving. Future instructors are trained here, creating a culture of professionalism, high standards, and continuous development throughout the entire team.

Learn Through Real Experience

One of the biggest differences between the Divemaster Internship at Oceans 5 and many other programs is that you learn in a real working dive center.

You will assist on actual courses, help real students, participate in daily dive operations, and gain hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced instructors.

During the internship, you will develop skills such as:

  • Guiding certified divers
  • Assisting instructors during courses
  • Conducting dive briefings
  • Leading underwater tours
  • Organizing diving activities
  • Performing diver rescues
  • Managing dive logistics
  • Becoming a role model underwater

This practical approach helps candidates develop confidence much faster than programs that focus primarily on theory.

Professional Training, Not Free Labor

Many divers searching for a Divemaster Internship worry about becoming cheap labor instead of receiving proper education.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, the philosophy is simple: training comes first.

The internship is a structured educational program designed to develop professional skills. Candidates are coached, mentored, and guided throughout the entire process. The focus is on personal growth, confidence, and competence rather than simply filling staff positions.

World-Class Facilities

Professional training requires professional facilities.

Oceans 5 Gili Air offers facilities rarely found elsewhere in Indonesia, including:

  • Two large training pools
  • Spacious classrooms
  • Modern teaching equipment
  • Well-maintained rental equipment
  • Dedicated dive boats
  • Professional equipment service center
  • Comfortable accommodation options

These facilities create an ideal environment for learning and allow Divemaster candidates to focus entirely on becoming better dive professionals.

Conservation Is Part of the Training

Today, being a dive professional means more than simply guiding divers underwater.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, conservation is integrated into daily operations and professional training. Candidates learn how to become ambassadors for the ocean through proper buoyancy control, responsible diving practices, marine life protection, and participation in environmental initiatives.

Weekly beach cleanups, reef conservation activities, and partnerships with Indonesian universities help create dive professionals who understand the importance of protecting the environment they work in.

The ocean is your future workplace. Learning how to protect it is an essential part of becoming a Divemaster.

A Pathway to Becoming an SSI Instructor

For many divers, Divemaster is only the beginning.

One of the biggest advantages of completing your Divemaster Internship at Oceans 5 Gili Air is the opportunity to continue directly into the SSI Instructor Training Course.

Because you already know the team, facilities, teaching philosophy, and standards, the transition from Divemaster to Instructor becomes much smoother. Many professional divers have started their careers by completing both programs at Oceans 5 Gili Air.

Join the Oceans 5 Family

Perhaps the most important reason why so many Divemaster candidates choose Oceans 5 Gili Air is the atmosphere.

The internship is not just about collecting signatures in a training log. It is about becoming part of a professional diving family. Candidates work closely with instructors, divemasters, interns, and staff members who all share the same passion for diving and ocean conservation.

Many candidates arrive as customers and leave as lifelong friends.

Oceans 5 Gili Air: The Best Dive Resort on Gili Air by Far

Looking for the best dive resort on Gili Air? Stop searching. You just found it.

Every year, thousands of travelers arrive on Gili Air dreaming of crystal-clear water, sea turtles, colorful coral reefs, and unforgettable scuba diving adventures. But there is one question almost every diver asks before booking:

Which is the best dive resort on Gili Air?

The answer is simple: Oceans 5 Gili Air.

And no, it’s not because we say so. It’s because Oceans 5 combines world-class diving facilities, professional instruction, comfortable accommodation, conservation programs, and an incredible community atmosphere that is difficult to find anywhere else in Indonesia.

Let’s look at why Oceans 5 Gili Air stands out from the competition.

A True Dive Resort, Not Just a Dive Shop

Many businesses on Gili Air call themselves dive resorts, but in reality, they are simply dive shops working together with nearby hotels.

Oceans 5 is different.

Everything is located on one spacious property. Guests can wake up, enjoy breakfast, prepare their equipment, attend diving courses, relax by the pool, and join dive trips without ever leaving the resort.

The resort offers comfortable accommodation, training facilities, dive boats, classrooms, equipment rooms, swimming pools, and social areas all in one location.

This creates a much more relaxed and enjoyable experience for guests.

The Largest and Most Impressive Training Facilities on Gili Air

If you are learning to dive, facilities matter.

A lot.

Oceans 5 has invested heavily in creating one of the most professional training environments in Indonesia.

The resort features two large training pools, spacious classrooms, dedicated equipment areas, and plenty of room for students to learn comfortably.

Unlike many dive centers where confined water sessions feel crowded, students at Oceans 5 have the space they need to develop confidence at their own pace.

This is one of the reasons why so many students leave Oceans 5 feeling genuinely comfortable underwater rather than simply certified.

Small Groups, Big Difference

One of the biggest complaints divers have about popular holiday destinations is overcrowding.

Nobody wants to spend their holiday squeezed into a group of ten divers following a guide.

At Oceans 5, the philosophy is different.

Groups are kept small, with a maximum of four divers per guide or instructor.

This means:

  • More personal attention
  • Better safety
  • Less stress
  • Better buoyancy coaching
  • More opportunities to see marine life
  • More enjoyable dives

It’s a simple concept, but it makes a massive difference underwater.

Some of the Most Experienced Instructors in Indonesia

A dive resort is only as good as its instructors.

Oceans 5 has built its reputation over more than fifteen years by focusing on instructor quality rather than instructor quantity.

The team consists of experienced professionals who teach everything from beginner programs all the way to professional-level instructor training courses.

Whether you are taking your first breath underwater or becoming a dive professional, you are learning from people who genuinely care about developing confident and capable divers.

Many instructors working throughout Southeast Asia today actually completed their professional training at Oceans 5.

That says a lot.

An Instructor Training Center Means Higher Standards

Here’s something many visitors don’t realize.

Oceans 5 is not only a recreational dive center.

It is also an Instructor Training Center.

That means future dive professionals are trained here.

To teach instructors, standards must be exceptionally high.

Every procedure, every briefing, every safety protocol, and every teaching technique is continuously evaluated and improved.

When you choose Oceans 5 for your Open Water Course, Advanced Course, Rescue Course, Divemaster Program, or Instructor Training, you benefit from the same professional standards used to train future instructors.

Equipment That Actually Gets Maintained

Let’s be honest.

Not all dive equipment is maintained equally.

At Oceans 5, equipment maintenance is taken seriously.

Regulators, BCDs, cylinders, compressors, and safety equipment receive regular inspections and servicing.

The resort continually upgrades its facilities and equipment to ensure guests enjoy comfortable and reliable dives.

When you enter the water, you want to focus on enjoying the dive—not wondering whether your gear is working properly.

The Best Location on Gili Air

Location matters.

Oceans 5 is strategically located close to the harbor of Gili Air, making arrivals and departures easy.

No dragging heavy luggage across the island.

No long walks carrying dive equipment.

Guests arriving from Bali or Lombok can quickly settle into their accommodation and start enjoying their holiday almost immediately.

The location is also surrounded by restaurants, cafés, shops, and other facilities that make a stay on Gili Air even more enjoyable.

More Than Diving: A Community

Many dive centers offer dives.

Very few create a community.

Oceans 5 has built a reputation for making guests feel like family.

People arrive as customers and often leave as friends.

Many return year after year.

Some visitors originally came for a single dive and ended up staying for months, completing professional courses and changing their lives completely.

That sense of belonging is difficult to describe until you experience it yourself.

Conservation Is Not a Marketing Trick

Nowadays, many businesses talk about protecting the ocean.

At Oceans 5, conservation is part of daily life.

The team has organized regular beach cleanups for years, supports marine conservation initiatives, collaborates with local organizations, and works together with university students conducting marine research around the Gili Islands.

Environmental awareness is integrated into diving courses from beginner level all the way to professional training.

The goal is simple:

Create divers who love the ocean and know how to protect it.

Incredible Diving Right on Your Doorstep

Of course, none of this would matter without great diving.

Fortunately, Gili Air offers some of Indonesia’s most accessible and enjoyable diving.

Divers regularly encounter:

  • Green sea turtles
  • Hawksbill turtles
  • Reef sharks
  • Moray eels
  • Octopus
  • Frogfish
  • Nudibranchs
  • Schools of reef fish
  • Beautiful coral reefs

Whether you’re interested in relaxed beginner dives, drift diving, deep diving, wreck diving, underwater photography, or technical diving, there is something for everyone.

And Oceans 5 knows exactly where to find the best conditions.

The Verdict: The Best Dive Resort on Gili Air

There are plenty of places to dive around the Gili Islands.

But if you’re looking for:

✅ Professional instructors
✅ Small groups
✅ Excellent safety standards
✅ Comfortable accommodation
✅ Two large training pools
✅ Well-maintained equipment
✅ Conservation programs
✅ Instructor-level expertise
✅ Friendly atmosphere
✅ Amazing diving

Then there is one clear choice.

Oceans 5 Gili Air is not just another dive shop. It is the complete dive resort experience.

So the next time somebody asks you where the best dive resort on Gili Air is, you can confidently tell them:

It’s Oceans 5 Gili Air—and it’s not even close. 🌊🐢🤿

“Maybe next year.”

“I’ll do it when I have more time.”

Then another year passes.

The reality is that there will never be a perfect moment. But there is a perfect opportunity.

The upcoming SSI Instructor Training Course at Oceans 5 Gili Air starts in just two weeks and is perfectly timed before the busiest diving months begin.

Upcoming SSI Instructor Training Course Dates 2026

  • 15 – 30 June | Instructor Evaluation 1 – 2 July
  • 16 – 31 July | Instructor Evaluation 1 – 2 August
  • 16 – 31 August | Instructor Evaluation 1 – 2 September

  • 15 – 30 November | Instructor Evaluation 1 – 2 December

Each course is limited to a maximum of six candidates, ensuring every future instructor receives personal attention and coaching throughout the program.

Why Gili Air Is the Perfect Place for an SSI Instructor Training Course

When people think about instructor courses, they often focus on the training itself.

But the location matters just as much.

The SSI Instructor Training Course is intensive. There is theory, confined water sessions, open water presentations, standards workshops, rescue exercises, evaluations, and plenty of study time.

The last thing you need is a noisy, crowded environment adding unnecessary stress.

That is exactly why Gili Air is so special.

Unlike larger tourist destinations, Gili Air offers a relaxed atmosphere where candidates can fully focus on becoming great instructors.

After training, you can:

  • Walk along white sandy beaches
  • Watch spectacular sunsets
  • Relax in a beach café
  • Enjoy a massage
  • Go snorkeling or freediving
  • Meet fellow instructors and divers from around the world

Everything is within walking distance. There are no cars, no traffic jams, and no city stress.

Many candidates tell us that Gili Air helped them stay calm and focused during their instructor training.

And when you’re learning how to teach diving professionally, that makes a huge difference.

Learn From SSI Instructor Trainer Warren “Waz” Beyers

A great Instructor Trainer doesn’t simply help candidates pass an evaluation.

A great Instructor Trainer creates confident instructors.

This is where SSI Instructor Trainer Warren “Waz” Beyers stands out.

Waz has spent years teaching divers at every level, from beginners taking their first breaths underwater to professional-level candidates preparing for instructor careers.

His teaching philosophy is simple:

The goal is not to create candidates who can pass an exam. The goal is to create instructors who can confidently teach real students.

Throughout the course, Waz focuses on:

  • Building confidence
  • Understanding teaching techniques
  • Developing problem-solving skills
  • Improving communication
  • Teaching realistic instructor skills
  • Creating environmentally aware dive professionals

Instead of simply memorizing standards, candidates learn how to apply those standards in real-life teaching situations.

The result?

Instructors who leave the program feeling ready to work immediately.

Small Groups, Big Results

One of the biggest problems with many instructor courses is overcrowding.

Some programs accept large numbers of candidates, making it difficult to provide individual coaching.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, we limit every SSI Instructor Training Course to a maximum of six candidates.

This allows Waz and the instructional team to focus on every individual.

If you struggle with presentations, we help improve presentations.

If confined water demonstrations need work, we focus on demonstrations.

If open water skills need polishing, we spend extra time in the water.

The course adapts to the candidates—not the other way around.

That approach has helped countless candidates develop into confident professionals.

The Best ITC Facilities on the Gili Islands

A professional-level training course requires professional-level facilities.

This is where Oceans 5 Gili Air truly stands apart.

Two Large Training Pools

Unlike many dive centers that rely on small pools or shared facilities, Oceans 5 has two dedicated training pools.

The Best ITC Facilities on the Gili Islands | Oceans 5 Gili Air

The main training pool measures 25 meters long and provides multiple depth levels, allowing candidates to practice skills in a controlled environment before taking them into open water.

The second training pool offers additional space for workshops, demonstrations, and skill development.

This means more water time, more practice opportunities, and less waiting around.

Dedicated Classroom Facilities

The Instructor Training Course includes extensive classroom sessions.

Oceans 5 provides spacious classrooms designed specifically for professional-level training.

Candidates have plenty of room to study, prepare presentations, and participate in workshops.

Dedicated Instructor Training Boat

Instructor candidates often need additional practice and flexibility.

Oceans 5 operates dedicated dive boats, ensuring candidates can focus on training rather than competing with large groups of recreational divers.

Modern Equipment

Professional instructors should train with professional equipment.

Oceans 5 maintains modern rental equipment, well-organized equipment facilities, and a fully equipped compressor room capable of producing a wide range of Nitrox blends.

A Professional Teaching Environment

Perhaps the biggest advantage is the teaching atmosphere.

Oceans 5 is not simply a dive shop running an occasional professional course.

Professional training is a core part of what we do.

From Divemaster programs to Instructor Training Courses, the entire facility is designed around developing the next generation of dive professionals.

More Than Just Passing the Evaluation

Many candidates arrive believing that success means passing the Instructor Evaluation.

We disagree.

Passing the evaluation is only the beginning.

The real goal is becoming the type of instructor that students remember years later.

The instructor who can solve problems.

The instructor who can build confidence.

The instructor who teaches safely and professionally.

The instructor who protects the ocean while sharing their passion for diving.

That is the philosophy behind every SSI Instructor Training Course at Oceans 5 Gili Air.
