Your day begins with a relaxed briefing where your instructor explains the equipment, basic underwater communication and the simple safety procedures you’ll use during your dive.
Afterwards, you’ll enter our spacious training pool.
Here you’ll become comfortable breathing underwater, clearing your mask, using your regulator and moving around with scuba equipment—all under the direct supervision of your instructor.
Once everyone feels relaxed and confident, it’s time for the best part.
You’ll head to one of the beautiful reefs surrounding Gili Air for your very first ocean dive.
Throughout the dive, your instructor stays with you every step of the way, allowing you to focus on enjoying the incredible marine life rather than worrying about the equipment.
For many people, it’s the moment they completely fall in love with scuba diving.
However, it’s important to understand one thing.
An Introduction Dive is not a scuba certification.
It is a discovery experience that lets you safely explore the underwater world and find out whether diving is something you’d like to continue in the future.
If you decide afterwards that you want to become a certified diver, you’ll already have a fantastic first experience behind you.
Option Two: Become an SSI Open Water Diver
If you’ve already decided that you want to learn scuba diving properly, the SSI Open Water Diver Course is the perfect place to start.
At Oceans 5 Gili Air, our Open Water Course starts every single day, so you don’t have to organise your holiday around fixed course dates.
Over three enjoyable days, you’ll gradually build your confidence and skills.
The course combines classroom learning, practical pool sessions and four open water dives around the beautiful reefs of the Gili Islands.
You’ll learn how to:
- Assemble and use scuba equipment correctly.
- Communicate underwater.
- Control your buoyancy effortlessly.
- Plan safe dives.
- Handle common diving situations calmly and confidently.
